As you look back on last year you are either bummed, happy, or kind of meh. But that was last year and you’re probably hoping this year will be better. If you’re like me you want this year to be the BEST YEAR EVER.
The best way to create this isn’t by making resolutions or buying a ( 6-figure coaches UNITE in 2019 ) marketing course, but rather by developing simple and powerful practices that will create your year.
If you want to sign more clients, practice creating clients.
If you want to raise your rates, practice having higher rates.
If you want to become a full-time coach, practice being a professional coach.
If you want to become a Master, practice mastery.
Of course this is easier said than done. You might even be thinking, “If I knew how to practice this stuff, Toku, I’d already be good at it.” Which is why in this guide I’m going to lay out a simple way to develop the practices that will change your business and you life as a coach.
STEPS TO CREATING A DOPE YEAR AS A COACH
1) GET PRESENT TO THE POSSIBILITY
Your #1 job as a coach is to be present to the possibility of the person you’re coaching. And while this can sometimes be challenging, the one thing that will make it harder is if you’re not present to your own possibility. So right now, GET PRESENT TO THE POSSIBILITY of this year. If it helps, write out what’s possible for this year or what you hope might be possible. If you struggle to do this, that’s what having a good coach is for, so consider getting one. But no matter how get present to it.
2) ASK YOURSELF: WHAT WOULD I LIKE?
Please don’t ask yourself
– What am I scared of?
– What do I think is realistic?
– OR What would save me?
Ask “What I would like?” If you start to get un-present to possibility get RE-present to it. Just assume whatever you’d like is possible. You’re not bound to it – just write out what you would like. Keep it simple. 1- 5 things max.
3) ASK YOURSELF: WHAT WOULD HAVING THAT DO FOR ME?
What experience am I wanting to create? Who will I be when I can have what I want? What will my day look like? Who will I be allowed to show up as?
Don’t belabor this too much! Just ask what would having this do for me? And write it down. Be honest and again keep it simple.
4) ASK YOURSELF: HOW CAN I PRACTICE THIS? NOW OR SOON?
This might confuse you. You’re thinking the future is OUT THERE and I’m OVER HERE, but that’s not true. Practice and Realization are NOT SEPARATE.
You can practice what you want. If you wrote down that you want to be making a living as a coach and that this would give you a feeling of confidence, how could you practice that?
What would a professional coach do everyday?
How would a confident coach act?
If you assumed success, and worked backwards from there, what would it look like?
If you want to raise your rates, practice raising your rates. Simply say a higher fee when you propose. AND THEN Notice what comes up, for you, for your client.
What assumptions, what models are at play? What works? What doesn’t work? What could you do better?
5) START PRACTICING AND GET SUPPORT
Now that you have a guess about how to practice. START!! Not tomorrow, not next week, do something today to practice it. There is no one coming to save you. No secret is going to unlock you forever. You will unlock you, by practicing.
But practice can be hard, which is why we need help. I get supported in my practices. I go to seminars to help me practice transformation. I meet with peer coaches to practice coaching mastery. I teach and get feedback from my students so I can become a better teacher. I have a coach who pushes me. I couldn’t do it without support.
When I lived in the monastery I NEEDED the bells, the pressure, to sit for 4 hours a day. I probably wouldn’t have done it on my own.
So don’t be a hero. Get help. Get supported. And practice. GOOD, BAD, UGLY, practice is what creates excellence, in coaches, athletes, musicians, and years.
Thank you in advance for your incredible practice.
Love,
Toku
